As someone who has spent their entire career in Digital Marketing, you might think that there's not much I haven't tried, faced or seen before. To an extent it's true. But in reality, I'm lucky enough to work in an industry that changes every single day. A new algorithm release, a new platform, a new influencer to watch - digital marketing is fueled by innovation. To stay on top requires an inquisitive mind and an ambition to learn something new by getting stuck in and giving it a go.

Agility has become a buzzword in business, but this ability to be flexible, to test and learn from your work is inherently digital. In one of my early career roles I was responsible for managing the facebook page of a global brand with over 1 million fans (back in the days when you didn't have to pay to reach your audience). Posting was solely about timing and relevancy, and you knew pretty instantly whether your content was resonating or not. If it wasn't working, you listened to what your audience were saying and evolved the strategy.

Of course, algorithms have changed dramatically over the past 10 years. But the principles of social marketing remain the same today - brilliant content and a timely message - except now we have the ability to properly target our audiences. I've heard businesses lament the reality of pay to play, but based on the results it can deliver, it is one of the most powerful tools in your digital marketing kit.
